I used this when touring to convert acoustic drum triggers and electronic drum pad signals to MIDI note numbers in order to trigger sounds from a rack mount sampler. It was also used in the studio to do drum sound replacement on multi-track recordings. For example, if we wanted a different sound for the snare drum we would feed the original snare drum track signal into one of the PM-16 inputs and that would trigger a new snare drum sound that would then get recorded on an open track.
Each input can be switched to accept either a Mic or Line level signal so with the sensitivity control you can send it a wide variety of signal levels.
