This Bass and Case are in great condition for their age. It has minor scratches in the finish as you would expect and there is one small ding on the front of the body near the bridge.(see photo) It's even free of the usual belt buckle rash you see on many instruments of this era. The case also looks great. It has the usual wear mark in the internal case material where the neck plate rests and the snap is torn off of the vinyl strap that is for securing the neck. I tried to take photos of any areas of concern so please look closely at all of the photos to see the condition of this one for yourself.
The age was determined by the serial number.
According to my research, at this time period Fender started the serial number with an S for Seventies and the first number after that designated the year. S8******/ Seventy 8 or 78.
I also removed the neck to verify the head stock serial number matched the body as you can see in the photo.
It seems like this is one that spent most of its life in its case, in the closet.
